Spinnaker School of English has a caring family approach, where all students are taught and cared for as individuals. Our dedicated and friendly staff will provide and create the right environment for you to learn and live in. Our teachers will focus on your language needs and deliver lessons to suit your learning preferences. We have some different English language course options for you, whether it’s General English or focusing on language skills such as reading, writing, listening or speaking. We also offer exam preparation courses e.g. IELTS, Cambridge, and Trinity. If you prefer, you can have one-to-one tuition so you can focus on a very specific area of language, such as pronunciation or writing skills, etc. We believe in providing a service that goes outside of the classroom. Your welfare and general well-being are very important to us. To achieve this, we will provide you with accommodation, (if requested); airport transfers (when requested); a free tutorial system where you can meet with your teacher or a member of the academic team to discuss your progress, as well as any other welfare needs you may have. Portsmouth is known as ‘the waterfront city’, because it has many miles of coastline and beaches. However, it is also technically an island. Portsmouth is a fun place to visit with lots of activities and places to go. If you like history, there are the museums of Britain’s naval history, but it is also home to the modern Royal Navy with a large port to the west. There is also the coastal resort of Southsea at the foot of the city. It is a great place to spend time in the summer with people sunbathing and swimming in the sea. There are many tennis courts nearby and other sporting facilities such as a beach volleyball court on the seafront. Portsmouth is the home of the world famous hovercraft which can whizz you across the sea to the Isle of Wight in less than 15 minutes. If you like shopping, Gunwharf Quays is ideal with lots of shops to explore. It is also the location of the Spinnaker Tower, so you can see the whole of the city and beyond at the top of the iconic building.

Home Language International (HLI) is a family-run business offering language courses in more than 20 languages in over 30 countries worldwide, including English lessons at an experienced private teacher's home in UK. More than 5,000 students take advantage of our services every year. Ian Josephs, Danielle Josephs, their 5 adult children and an expert team of dedicated staff all put in very long hours for HLI. You stay in an experienced teacher's family home, have one-to-one English lessons and then continue to use the language during the rest of your stay in Portsmouth. Because you are the only student, you are guaranteed individual attention. The lessons are completely designed for you, so the teacher will focus exactly on what you need. Mealtime conversation, television and social contacts are all in English. All of our teachers in UK have a university degree (or equivalent) and/or a recognised teaching certificate.
